From a distance it looks like a fabulous medieval town. La Cité, dramatically lit at night and surrounded by two protective walls, interrupted by 52 stone towers. The hill on which it stands has been fortified for centuries by the Gauls, the Romans, the Visigoths, the Moors and the Franks. About 4 million tourists come here every year.
