Mont Saint Michel (France)
Granite, 80 meters high, tidal island of northwestern France, situated in the Bay of the same name off the coast of Normandy. The sea level difference at high and low tide is about 15 meters, so Mont Saint Michel is either surrounded by liquid sands or swims in the sea. Just below the Romanesque-Gothic monastery is a well-preserved medieval village with winding streets. The island is connected to the mainland only by a narrow walkway.
