Pont du Gard (France)

The original intention was to supply water to the city of Nimes. The last floor of the bridge, therefore, hides a meter wide and a meter and a half canal in which drinking water for Nimes crossed the Gard River valley. The bridge construction took less than twenty years. Another interesting feature is the construction technique itself, where the stone blocks were only stacked without the use of mortar.
