Neapol (Italy)
The city was probably founded by the inhabitants of the Greek settlement of Cuma around the 8th century BC, in what is now called the land of decumani, not far from the site of the pre-existing town of Partenope, later called Palepolis, the old town on today's Monte Echia, and for this reason it was called Néa-pólis, the "new city".
