Ancona (Italy)
Ancona is the capital of the Marche region and the province of Ancona, and at the same time an important port on the Adriatic coast. It has been inhabited since Roman times. The name comes from Greek and means elbow. It has 102,047 inhabitants.
The main monument of the city is the remarkable Gothic cathedral of St. Cyriaka (San Ciriaco), completed in 1189.
Not far from Ancona lies the town of Loreto with the Holy Hut - a model of all the later Loreto.
