Pompeje (Italy)
Pompeii (Italian Pompei, Latin Pompeii) was an ancient city in present-day Italian in the province of Napoli. They became one of three ancient Roman cities in the Bay of Naples in the imperial province of Italia (now the region of Campania, Italy), which was destroyed on 24 August 79 AD by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius. In 1997 Pompeii was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Near the ruins of ancient Pompeii is the present city of Pompei.
